New digital platform Local Free News will champion West Norfolk

I have started an exciting new position as news editor of Local Free News, a new digital platform for West Norfolk.

This is a freelance role and I will still be continuing my other client work and news/feature writing at Liz Hollis Media.

Local Free News (LFN) is a website and app dedicated to sharing local stories and information.

“The initiative will offer free access to local news, events listings, business updates and community stories, with a strong focus on promoting positive narratives about the area and the people who live and work there,” said Jonny Piggott, LFN director.

The www.localfreenews.co.uk platform has been created to bring residents, businesses and visitors together in one modern, easy-to-access space.

Developers behind Local Free News say the platform is designed to champion the local community and support the local economy by increasing visibility for organisations and businesses. It will also ensure important information reaches a wide audience.

“The platform had a successful launch night at King’s Lynn town hall on 22 January where the Mayor of King’s Lynn Cllr Andy Bullen, James Wild MP for North West Norfolk, local councillors and many local businesses and residents came along,” said Jonny.

“I’m excited for what this platform can be. This innovative approach makes accessing news faster, coupled with free to read access.

“The whole team has spent many hours on this project and we are proud of the finished product,” he added.

Unlike traditional news outlets, Local Free News is being built as an evolving digital platform, with ongoing reinvestment planned to grow engagement, attract more visitors and deliver meaningful results for local organisations that choose to advertise.

By combining news, community updates and business promotion in one place, the platform aims to become a central hub for everyday life in West Norfolk.

Those behind the project say they believe Local Free News will play an important role in sharing positive stories, strengthening local identity and helping communities stay informed and connected.

The new sports editor is Steve Penny, an experience journalist who has worked for numerous regional and national newspapers and magazines.
